Bauhaus Frontman Peter Murphy Arrested for Alleged Hit-and-Run, Possession of Methamphetamines

Peter Murphy, frontman of British goth-rock act Bauhaus, was arrested this weekend after allegedly rear-ending a car in Glendale and fleeing to Los Angeles, the Glendale News Press reports. He injured the driver of the vehicle he struck; an eyewitness followed him because he was “afraid [Murphy] would kill someone with his driving.”
When Murphy was arrested in Los Angeles, he appeared “very confused” and couldn’t tell the date or time, according to the Glendale News Press. He claimed he hadn’t been drinking– he said he’d only taken his prescription depression medication and was jet-lagged– but police officers report finding a small bag of drugs, possibly methamphetamine, on him. He denied it belonged to him.
Murphy is still in custody, with bail set at $500,000, on charges of “causing injuries while driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, felony hit-and-run, and possession of methamphetamine.”
According to the Bauhaus website, Murphy is supposed to head out on a very long “Mr. Moonlight Tour” to celebrate 35 years of Bauhaus. “I decided the time was ripe to at last give a pure Bauhaus experience in one Mr. Moonlight world tour. Mr. Moonlight is alive and well, don’t doubt it.”
